Bracknell Roadworks This Week: Nightingale Crescent Shut

Nightingale Crescent is closed in both directions until Monday 12 October for gas works. At fifteen days it is the longest closure in the borough, and the only one this week that lasts more than a few days.

This page is every Bracknell roadworks closure now on the council’s books. It was checked against the council’s closure notices, its resurfacing programme, the National Highways closure report and National Rail on Tuesday 29 September 2026. Six things are worth knowing.

• Nightingale Crescent is shut until Monday 12 October for gas service transfers and replacements.
• Two M4 junction 10 slip roads close tonight, Tuesday 29 September, 9pm to 6am, for barrier repairs.
• Berkshire Way westbound closes overnight on Wednesday 30 September for the last night of its resurfacing. The emergency manhole closure has come off the council’s list.
• Cain Road roundabout closes overnight on 30 September and 1 October for resurfacing, then again on 2 October for markings.
• Wellington Road in Sandhurst closes from 7 to 10 October for patching.
• No engineering work is booked on the Reading to Waterloo line through Bracknell in the next fortnight.

Bracknell was laid out as a new town, so its roads are a deliberate network: dual carriageways on the outside, roundabouts instead of junctions, and estates hung off distributor roads. That design is fast when it works and awkward when it does not. Closing one link usually means a diversion of two or three miles rather than a parallel street.

Nightingale Crescent: a fortnight of gas works

The council’s road closures page lists Nightingale Crescent as closed in both directions from Monday 28 September to Monday 12 October. The work is gas service transfers and replacements.

The council’s diversion is Harmans Water Road and Nightingale Crescent itself, using the part of the crescent that stays open. The notice does not say which section is shut at any one time. Gas service work usually moves along a street house by house, so the closed stretch may change during the fortnight.

Berkshire Way: one more night

The emergency closure of Berkshire Way westbound, for a collapsed manhole cover, was due to end on Monday 28 September. It is no longer on the council’s list.

The planned resurfacing entry is still there, with one night left:

• Wednesday 30 September, 8pm to 6am, westbound from Doncastle roundabout to and including Vigar roundabout
• Vigar Way and the A329 eastbound approach to it are closed as well
• the westbound slip lane stays open

The resurfacing programme says that night is for road markings and cutting traffic signal loops.

The council publishes two diversions, depending on how much of the road is shut.

• The short diversion, for works between Doncastle roundabout and Vigar Way: Doncastle Road, Peacock Lane and Vigar Way.
• The full diversion, which the council says is needed when the Jennetts Park roundabout is closed: A329 Berkshire Way, A322 Downshire Way, A3095 Bagshot Road, A3095 Church Road, A329 Millennium Way, B3408 Wokingham Road and B3408 London Road.

Berkshire Way is the feeder to the A329(M) and the M4, which is why a westbound closure is felt well beyond Jennetts Park.

The emergency closures still listed

Three emergency closures started on Thursday 24 September. The council still lists all three.

• Goughs Lane, Warfield: closed in both directions until Tuesday 29 September, for leak repair works. The diversion is Lynwood Chase, Old Farm Drive and the A3095 Warfield Road.
• Ryehurst Lane, Binfield: closed until Friday 2 October, to repair a collapsed bridge railing. The diversion is the B3018 Church Lane and Stubbs Hill.
• The slip road from the A329 Skimped Hill Lane: listed as closed until Monday 28 September, to repair a burst water main. The diversion is the A329 Skimped Hill Lane, Peel roundabout and Skimped Hill Lane.

The Skimped Hill Lane entry is still on the page although its end date has passed. We could not confirm today whether the slip road has reopened. The council notes that closure durations may be estimates.

Every closure now booked in the borough

Two council sources feed this table. The road closures notice page carries urgent repairs, utility and developer works, which appear at short notice. The resurfacing programme carries the planned inlay round, published months ahead. The notice page is a live list, not an archive: entries disappear once the work is done.

Three of these are worth a second look.

Cain Road roundabout closes completely for two nights, from 8pm to 6am on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October. The programme then books road markings on Friday 2 October, again under a road closure, without giving times.

Wellington Road in Sandhurst closes from 9:30am on Wednesday 7 October to 3:30pm on Saturday 10 October for carriageway patching. The council’s diversion is the A231 Yorktown Road and Crowthorne Road.

Western Road remains postponed with no new date, as it has been since before 11 September. All three of its entries in the programme carry the same line: work postponed, new date to be announced.

The motorways this week

Bracknell has no motorway junction of its own, so the strategic network matters mainly at two points: the M4 at junction 10 via the A329(M), and the M3 at junction 3 via the A322 through Bagshot.

The National Highways closure report now covers Monday 28 September to Sunday 4 October. It books one job at junction 10, tonight, Tuesday 29 September, from 9pm to 6am:

• the M4 westbound junction 10 exit slip road is closed
• the slip road from the M4 eastbound onto the A329(M) northbound is closed

National Highways describes the scheme as slip road and lane closures at M4 junction 10 in both directions, for barrier repairs. The westbound exit slip is the one drivers coming home from London use to reach Bracknell. The report does not give a diversion.

The M3 at junction 3 has nothing booked all week.

Further along the routes Bracknell drivers use:

• The link from the M4 eastbound at junction 4b to the M25 at junction 15: closed 10pm to 5:30am tonight. That is the Heathrow corner.
• The link from the M25 clockwise at junction 15 to the M4 at junction 4b: closed overnight on 30 September, 1 October and 2 October, for technology survey works.
• M3 westbound junction 2 to the M25 at junction 12 link road: closed 10pm to 5:30am tonight, for urgent safety fence repairs.
• A404(M) at junction 9a, the Maidenhead junction: northbound slip roads close 9pm to 6am tonight, and southbound slip roads the same hours on Wednesday 30 September.
• A404 southbound Burchetts Green exit slip road: closed 9pm to 6am on Thursday 1 October, on the Maidenhead to Marlow road.
• M4 eastbound junction 6 entry slip road: closed 9pm to 6am on Friday 2 October. That is the Slough and Windsor junction.

The closure report is reissued on working days, so a closure can be added after this page was checked.

The trains

Nothing is booked on the Reading to Waterloo line through Bracknell in the next fortnight. National Rail’s list of planned engineering works has no notice for Bracknell, Martins Heron, Ascot or Wokingham before 24 October.

Two weekends later in October affect London trains from Bracknell, because the line runs through Staines:

• Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October: buses replace trains between Staines and Hounslow or Twickenham, and National Rail lists the Reading to Waterloo service as affected.
• Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November: all lines close between Hounslow and Windsor or Virginia Water. On the Saturday an amended service runs between Waterloo and Reading via Wimbledon, Chertsey and Virginia Water.

Then on Sunday 15 November, National Rail says engineering work between Reading and Wokingham closes all lines. Buses will replace trains between Reading and Bracknell that day.

Where the diversions actually send you

The council publishes a diversion route with each closure on its notice page. The resurfacing programme does not carry diversions, so these are all there are.

• Nightingale Crescent, to 12 October: Harmans Water Road and Nightingale Crescent.
• A329 Berkshire Way, 30 September: Doncastle Road, Peacock Lane and Vigar Way; or A329 Berkshire Way, A322 Downshire Way, A3095 Bagshot Road, A3095 Church Road, A329 Millennium Way, B3408 Wokingham Road and B3408 London Road when Jennetts Park roundabout is shut.
• Goughs Lane, Warfield, to 29 September: Lynwood Chase, Old Farm Drive and the A3095 Warfield Road.
• Ryehurst Lane, Binfield, to 2 October: B3018 Church Lane and Stubbs Hill.
• Skimped Hill Lane slip road: A329 Skimped Hill Lane, Peel roundabout and Skimped Hill Lane.
• Wellington Road, Sandhurst, 7 to 10 October: A231 Yorktown Road and Crowthorne Road.

Easthampstead Road, Hawkins Close and Cain Road roundabout are resurfacing jobs, and the programme publishes no diversion for any of them.

The roads that carry the traffic

Everything funnels onto a handful of routes, and knowing which one a closure pushes you onto is most of the battle.

• A329(M) is the town’s motorway link, running north west from the Coppid Beech end of the borough to Reading and the M4 at junction 10. Anything on the A329 Berkshire Way between Doncastle roundabout and the boundary is the feeder to it, which is why that road is resurfaced overnight rather than in the day.
• A322 runs north to south through the west of the town as Downshire Way and Bagshot Road, and carries on to the M3 at junction 3 near Bagshot. It is the route for Guildford, Woking and the south coast.
• A329 London Road is the old east to west road, through the town centre towards Ascot one way and Wokingham the other.
• A3095 Mill Lane and Crowthorne Road run south from Twin Bridges towards Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Camberley, past the Look Out and Coral Reef.
• B3430 Nine Mile Ride cuts west from Crowthorne towards Wokingham and Finchampstead, and is the access road for Swinley Forest and the Look Out.

The named roundabouts worth knowing, because closure notices assume you do: Twin Bridges, Coppid Beech, Hanworth, Great Hollands, Doncastle, Vigar, Cain Road and Brookers Corner at Crowthorne.

Parking in the town centre

Braccan Walk, at 356 spaces, is the borough’s benchmark tariff. It is open 24 hours, though the lifts close between 9pm and 8am.

Three things the signs do not shout about. Bank holidays are charged at normal rates. There are no free concessions for Blue Badge holders in any council charging car park. And motorcycle parking is free, on the ground floor, 14 bays taking two bikes each. The height restriction is 2 metres.

The other town centre options are The Avenue multi-storey, Albert Road (194 spaces), Behind the Banks (27 spaces) and Wick Hill. Season tickets are available, and residents can apply for one on proof of address.
